What's in this episode?

In the second episode of our new season focusing on the impacts and opportunities of Natural Capital, we discuss bio-diversity net gain, what it is and how it is likely to impact on rural land use.

This is one of two episodes we will be releasing around biodiversity net gain with our second episode discussing how rural landowners can make the most out of the opportunities biodiversity net gain provides.

In this episode, we are joined by ecologists Jacob Hepworth-Bell and Tristan Carlyle from Aurochs Ecology Ltd. Jacob and Tristan are business partners and set up Aurochs Ecology Ltd to offer advice and consultancy services as well as their ecology expertise to clients.

Our experts begin by giving a background to biodiversity net gain, what it is and why it has been introduced as a policy by the government.

They then focus on what the requirements are for biodiversity net gain and how it's measured, followed by a discussion on the opportunities for landowners that biodiversity net gain might present as an alternative income stream/farming diversification. The episode is rounded off with top tips for farmers and other landowners interested in biodiversity net gain and its likely long-term impact on land use.
