Foot Anstey signs commitment letter to set science-based targets
National law firm Foot Anstey has signed the Science Based Targets initiative commitment letter and pledged to reduce its net zero emissions by 2050.
As part of the commitment, Foot Anstey will set rigorous carbon reduction targets over the next two years. These targets include limiting global warming to 1.5°C in line with the recommendations put forward by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The firm has committed to going beyond just cutting emissions from its energy use and travel, extending to reduce the carbon footprint of its entire supply chain. This is known as 'Scope 3' emissions which require companies to focus on lowering the carbon impact of all the goods and services purchased and other activity in its value chain, ensuring that sustainability is integrated into every aspect of business operations.
Commenting on the decision to commit to setting science-based targets, Bola Gibson, Executive Director of Responsible Business at Foot Anstey, said: "We believe that true business success is measured not only by achieving our ambitious growth targets, but also by our contribution to a sustainable future. That's why our ambition is to be able to set science-based targets within the next two years. The targets will provide a clearly defined, robust pathway for us to reduce our emissions, helping us navigate growth while limiting the cost to the climate."
Embedding sustainability across the business
In addition to signing the commitment letter, the firm is also working to embed sustainability into all of its business operations through a number of streams:
